PROJECT MANAGER (INTEGRATED DEGREE) – Level: 6

Help organisations manage projects efficiently.

Project managers are responsible to the project sponsor/owner for the end-to-end delivery of a project or a subset of a project dependent on the complexity and criticality to the business. They have responsibility for delivering the project in line with defined objectives, taking decisions to manage stakeholder expectations by leading a multi-skilled, cross-disciplinary team to deliver the project to time, cost and quality requirements. Using their unique knowledge, skills and leadership behaviours project managers will manage the social, legal and environmental implications of their project. In addition, they will manage a variety of interfaces with the organisational entities involved in the project, reporting to the project sponsor and working within the requirements of the programme and portfolio as appropriate. A project manager must also have the competencies to contribute to benefits management and realisation, consolidating appropriate metrics to report thus ensuring that identified business benefits are achieved.

4 Years

Whilst entry requirements are a matter for individual employers, typically an apprentice might be expected to have achieved appropriate level 3 qualifications on entry e.g. 3 GCE “A” Levels at Grades A to C, or a vocational equivalent. Apprentices are also expected to have typically achieved Maths and English at Level 2 prior to starting the apprenticeship.

On-Programme Assessment

Apprentices must successfully pass 320 on-programme credits prior to taking the EPA, which is worth 40 credits. Apprentices without English and mathematics at level 2 on entry must achieve level 2 prior to taking their EPA.

End Point Assessment

Method 1: Work Based Project

The report on the work-based project must evidence the apprentice’s attainment of knowledge, skills and behaviours of a project manager and demonstrate how these have been applied in a project environment. The Work Based Project report is an account of a project with which the apprentice has been involved and must include a critical appraisal of the project together with a critical review of their achievement in the relevant KSB areas of the standard.

The report on the Work Based project will comprise 4,000 words (+/- 10% plus references, appendices and abstract).

Method 2: Professional Review

The professional review is assessed through a formal presentation followed by an interview. The apprentice must submit their evidence portfolio two weeks in advance of the professional review. The portfolio will contain naturally occurring evidence from the apprentice’s day to day activities in the workplace that demonstrate competence in each of the relevant KSBs. The portfolio must contain a minimum of one and a maximum of three pieces of evidence for each of the relevant KSBs. The apprentice will then prepare and deliver a presentation based on their achievement of the appropriate KSBs as evidenced and demonstrated in their portfolio. The presentation will be followed by an interview which will typically last 45 minutes

Upon successful completion apprentices can progress towards post-graduate qualification or level 7 apprenticeship programmes.

Projects span public, private and third sectors in industries as diverse as banking, insurance, government, healthcare, retail and transport. Increasingly, organisations employ project managers to improve processes or implement change to become more efficient and effective.

This may require managing interdisciplinary teams within various organisational structures and across organisations.

Currently due to COVID 19 we are teaching online learning. All of our classes are conducted through online Microsoft Teams or Zoom. All of our assessments are also submitted through online systems and feedback is provided to the learners. If any learners will need extra support, we will provide 1- to-1 tutorials to meet their learning needs. However, we will move towards campus-based studies upon the government guidelines and needs of our employers and apprentices.
